Our Mission
OUR MISSION
Hello, I’m Alia, a 17 year old high school student and the Founder of Alia Jaffrey LLC.
Alia Jaffrey LLC is a company dedicated to selling accessories for women and empowering people worldwide. Sewing and helping communities in need have been my passions since I was 9 years old. At first, I handmade all my products (bags, scarves, and other accessories) and sold them out of my house at trunk shows. These shows were a huge success, and over the course of several years, I handcrafted and sold over 350 products, donating proceeds to various charities. This experience taught me that even children have the power to change lives. I believe that a truly profitable company is one that is financially stable and works to make a positive difference in the world.
Many products sold on this website are handmade by women at an organization dedicated to their economic empowerment and well being. Some are part of a collection that directly benefits a charitable organization working with those in need. Many products are my original designs, and the rest have been sourced by me for our customers.
Enjoy our first two collections: one features the handcrafted work of the women of Behbud, and the other is our Puerto Rico collection, which benefits those who continue to suffer losses two years after Hurricane Maria struck their beautiful island (read below for more information). Thank you all for your support. We hope you love our products and will help us change the world one purchase at a time!
BEHBUD
For the past fifty years, Behbud has been a non-governmental, social welfare organization dedicated to the economic empowerment of women in the urban slums of Pakistan. Run mainly by volunteers, Behbud provides onsite training in embroidery, sewing, dying and pattern making to underprivileged women looking for sustainable income. In addition to job training and educational support, Behbud offers limited medical services to its trainees, but is now looking to expand those services to a Mother & Child Care Hospital. This new hospital will also serve the rural areas and urban slums of the Rawalpindi District within a 60 mile radius. We hope that you will contribute to Behbud’s important initiatives to help these women and their communities. Read more about The Women of Behbud or click the “Donate” button to help now.
PUERTO RICO
In the aftermath of Hurricanes Maria and Irma in 2017, many Puerto Ricans suffered mass devastation in their families, homes and communities. More than 3,000 people died. In addition, over 57,000 homes were destroyed, and around 470,000 homes suffered major damage. Two years later, many homes on the island are still covered with blue tarp and in desperate need of new roofs. Our Puerto Rico collection seeks to benefit Puerto Rican homeowners by raising funds for 100Roofs, a collaborative project with I am Brave and Heart 9/11. The goal is to build 100 roofs over a 10-week period, while providing carpentry training for residents to become professional roofers at the same time. A percentage of proceeds from our Puerto Rico collection, will go directly to the 100Roofs Project, along with any direct donations from our customers to this cause. It’s easy! Simply click on the “Donate” button and/or buy a designated product from our collection. We hope you will join us in helping rebuild beautiful Puerto Rico.
